Letter to Reiko #55 Durban Times and Your Funny Words

Hi Ko!!

I shall put this pic of you first because you just simply crack us up these days... your funny faces, your tone of voice that is hard to describe. Mummy wish I can record every conversation and the things you say.. but once I want to do that, things will not be natural, so I have to commit it to memory... :) Anyway this was you on the boardwalk. We were walking to the beach at the town of St Lucia.

Ok. here officially starts our journey to Durban on British Airways! It was a short 2 hour flight from Cape Town.

On the second day, we went to take the skycar to see the sight of the whole city. You and Daddy.. you were still trying to pose with your fingers.

What a tall man! We were outside Ushaka Seaworld. It was a hot and sunny day.

This man was standing nearby in Ushaka Kids world. I was asking you if you think he is real when he walked over and carried you. You were very calm and just posed for a photo with him.

This was at our Hluhluwe Safari.

We stayed at the hilltop resort. From our balcony, there were many monkeys climbing all over the trees. I held you as you sat there and watched the monkeys.

A nice picture of you daydreaming in our resort. Hehe. I wonder what you were thinking about.

One of the highlights at the Safari was that you and Kor drank coke each and you were squealing with delight. I think you can only have coke once a year. :P

We were having breakfast at the Safari. This view was breathtaking. We saw buffalos walking past. It was hard to believe they are just across us and separated by a short barrier like this.

This time as a whole family!

The drive to the top of the resort took about half hour from the main entrance. When driving down, we saw two herds of buffalos..

A visit to a cheese farm! Mummy loves such decor like these.

At this farm, we milked a goat and both of you also played with the dog there.

Mummy was more worried for you jumping on the trampoline cos you are pretty unstable. I can relax more when you can lie down like that.

The following day, we went out of Durban and headed to St Lucia, a hippo town. This town has hundreds of hippos. We took a boat cruise along the Umfolozi River and saw a few groups of hippos lying together. You were really interested to look at the hippos and was so happy.

At night, these hippos would come on land and walk among the streets. Indeed, we saw one from our van when we drove back from dinner.

You and gong gong taking a stroll together! We were going to the beach near St Lippo. We saw crabs and deers along this path.

Running to Daddy!

Whilst walking back to our van, Mummy carried you. You suddenly asked, "are you happy with me?" I said yes and asked if you were happy with me. You said "yes, I also want to take care of you and protect you." It was funny, I didn't know what made you say that. Was it because it was a little dark and you thought I was scared like you? But you were always the sweet one, always saying "can you be happy with me?" when you make me angry. No one could be angry with you for long. When I told you we have to love Mother Nature, you told me, "And daddy nature, brother nature, gong gong nature, mama nature?" :)

Hi Imm!!

We went to Durban last week and it was a nice trip for all of us, including ma-ma and gong-gong. This was all of us going for our Safari ride - one of the highlights. This game reserve was huge and had hundreds of buffalos, elephants... basically the Big 5 - Lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinos and leopards. But it was a bit hard to spot than other reserves as the area is so big! Nonetheless, we enjoyed the scenery and the wind. What was different this time was that the ride was from 5 pm to 8 pm.. thus the driver had to use a torch to shine into the dark while driving.

We took the sky car up on the second day to see the city area of Durban from the top. Nice view!

You at the Ushaka Seaworld... the theme was really nice. It reminded me of a shipwreck as they will put things like treasure chests, parts of a ship etc.

You and Ko really like the coarse sand at Ushaka Beach. This beach has mussels. You would pick up different parts of the shells and try to bury them in the sand.

The lighthouse at the beach.

A picture of you at the bed in the Safari, refusing to wake up! You are always grumpy when you are awake and it will take some time for you to truly wake up... hehe... you would whine like crazy and even more so when ma-ma is around...

When we were at the Safari, I guess the happiest moment was the break time.. when there were no other drinks except water, beer and coke... so we let both of you had one each and it was heaven! :) Just look at your happy faces....

We went to St Lucia, a hippo town! Mummy had never seen so many hippos before! But half way through the trip, you fell asleep and the tour guide, Kelly had to support you.. hehe... the rest of us were all busy taking photos!

Brekkie time at St Lucia! Mummy asked to have just egg white for you and ko but you refused to eat yours.... it is always a problem when we go on trips cos you just want to eat fries all the time and doting ma-ma will give you sweets and snacks when you asked for it... which made mummy angry and scold you because I have always told you to eat your proper meals.

This was the beach near St Lucia, right beside is the second tallest St Dunes in the world and beside River Nile. Your footprints!

We also went to the cheese farm where we get to milk goats! You were happy milking as you could see the milk coming out.... Mummy also totally enjoyed herself... except Daddy who could not squeeze the milk out properly, hehe.... You also pretended to be the goat after that.

There was a dog there and both you and Ko loved playing with it.

There was also a jungle gym with a trampoline to jump on! Great way to spend your energy! However, it was super hot....

The last place we went to was Zulu village. It was nice to learn about their tradition and it was indeed an eyeopener.

Daddy also danced with them!

Well... you saw a bug there and actually put on your hand. This bug would pretend to be dead when you touch it but you kept provoking it until it had to squirm and you knew it was alive!

You and Ko trying to squueze on the little wooden thing to take a photo. You kinda squeeze ko off and both of you tumbled to the ground.................. and we had to put both of you on the "stool" again. Kids....

A photo with Daddy's colleagues in Durban!

Hope you enjoyed as much as we did Imm! It was a nice family trip surrounded with lots of nature. Mummy hopes you will explore more when you grow up and we will continue to hunt for nature places to enjoy nice family time together. :) On the negative side, you came back with a bad cough though due to too much sweet stuff on the bus rides beside mama... which made mummy caned you for.

Hi Imm!!

I think you don't really need naps anymore...... for during the last two days of school hols... you simply bounce up after half an hour and then 5 mins on the subsequent day. So Mummy had no choice but to take this out for you, my last carrot for the school holidays... hama beads! I knew you would like it for you are the type of boy who loves this. You took 3-4 hours cos you weren't focused enough... you would put 10 beads and then prance around. But ok.. I don't expect utmost concentration from a 4 year old.. but you still managed to finish it though I will help you more towards the end. :) Good peserverance ok? Mummy is proud of you!

Another fun game during the school hols. I really like this tepee as it is so easy to set up.. you and Ko will hide inside to play with games or.... sand......

See your super duper happy face! You wanted this rainbow icecream.. and it was the only one left at the shop.

I guess the most surprising thing this week was when you SUDDENLY wanted to dismantle the fan out of the blue... so being the encouraging Mummy, I loosened the screw for you since you had difficulty and made you clean it. You really enjoy it though. You sure enjoy little chores like helping ma-ma pick out tails from beansprouts/opening up toys to find the batteries (by using a screwdriver).

Feeding the ducks with Daddy at The Farmyard.

We went to Villiera Wines for a game ride.. I think you were most happy to see a real chameleon! The driver was so amazing.. he drove to some bushes and looked around... and the next moment, he had a chameleon in his hand.

We made our new year resolution craft this week.... you enjoyed it... now you are pasting the stick..

Tada! The last two resolutions had some help from mummy, :)

Hi Ko!!

Mummy love this picture of you most this week! You look so sweet but is super "chor lor", if you could understand dialect next time..... if you are really curious, you can ask me or somebody. :) In fact, you had such a fun time posing that I cannot ask you to stop. When you were less than 1 year old, you always had one leg up like an ah pek when you were eating. Mummy understands that food simply taste awesome when you are at your comfort level. Yes, I also eat like that especially at home.. but of cos I have to put my leg down (literally if it means put my foot down) if I am having meals with you. :)

We went to Villiera Wines at Stellenbosch last Fri. What was awesome was that we did not need to drive too far to a mini Safari which was about 2 hours. It was good enough as we saw the big antelopes like the Eland, Waterbuck etc. As well as 2 giant turtles! You and Kor simply love to look at animals. Also, the scenery was great.. Mummy was so busy enjoying the breeze and view that I didn't take much pictures.. but sometimes this is the best.. we can be busy taking pictures for memories that we don't savour much in front of us. So we just need to be aware ok? The most beautiful sights are captured with the heart and not on pictures. (Though we also say a picture can speak a thousand words)

Happy Ko posing at West Coast Farmstall!

Another nice place we went for brekkie recently was this place called "The Farmyard". It has a nice bouncing castle. You and Kor simply enjoyed it!!

Both of you love icecream! When we buy, we have to get for both of you too!

The craft we did this week : Our New Year resolutions craft! You were pasting the sequins.

Yay! Let us try to keep our resolutions ok?:)
